The goal of the Monroe Saints program is to develop and promote the ideals of responsibility, hard work, sportsmanship, teamwork and fellowship within a safe and positive environment. The individual growth of our community's children is enhanced through the spirit of competition, discipline and fair play. These goals will be accomplished by providing a structured program designed to educate both participants and parents in all aspects of the sports of football and cheerleading. The Monroe Youth Football Association is committed to providing a program that maintains the highest standards and guarantees a fun, positive experience for everyone involved.
The participants of the Monroe Saints program are expected to abide by A code of conduct which includes but is not limited to the following: Respect of volunteer coaches, team members, opponents, officials and other representatives involved with the MYFA program.
Participants will take proper care of the equipment that is issued to them to use. Immediately notify a coach if the equipment becomes damaged. Participants must notify their coach in advanced if a practice is going to be missed. No exceptions!
Good sportsmanship is mandatory. No vulgar language, tantrums, displays of anger or fighting will be tolerated. Any such actions will result in disciplinary measures and may include suspension from the team.
As a member of the Monroe Saints program you represent yourself and your teammates on and off the field. Whether in victory or defeat you will conduct yourself with pride and poise.
Always be willing to help your coach or teammate when required. This program is for you!
The level of support given to a participant by the parents will have a measured impact as to the success of each child.
Parents are encouraged to cheer for their teams from the stands with enthusiasm but should never yell obscenities or derogatory remarks aimed at the opponents or conduct themselves in an offensive manner. As a result of such action, a team can be penalized for un-sportsmanlike conduct and the fan may be removed from the grounds.
A large number of people are needed to help the program run smoothly. Each parent is asked to volunteer a portion of their time during the season to help make the program run efficiently. It is the parent's responsibility to provide transportation to and from practice, games and other association functions.
If a participants grades fall below a "C" average or homework starts to become a problem, the parent should notify the head coach and together determine the best course of action to be taken. Parents should always maintain a cooperative attitude towards coaches, participants, officials and board members. Remember, all are volunteers.
As a Saints fan, the question you asked more than any other is, "What is that thing on the Saints' helmet? " While there are different meanings, this explanation comes straight from the 1999 New Orleans Saints Record and Fact Book. The Fleur de Lis, the emblem that the Saints wear on their helmets, is a symbol from the Court of Louis XIV. It is a French word that stands for "Flower of the Lilly". The Fleur de Lis is a symbol of New Orleans which was adopted during the French occupation of Louisiana, from 1682 through 1762. Due to its three "petals", the Fleur de Lis has been used to represent the Holy Trinity. Traditionally, it has been used to represent French royalty, and in that sense it is said to signify perfection, light, and life. But we use it because we like it.
A NOTE TO PARENTS
Your base registration includes all equipment used for practices and games. There are many cost associated with football that no one sees. Some of the items are down markers, first aid kits, blocking dummies, etc. MYFA purchases the best in equipment for our boys & girls (helmets are the Air Helmet) we do this for one reason - it is a non-profit organization and the MYFA Board Believes and manages themselves by Putting our Athletes and Safety First. Helmets although reused, must be sent out for refurbishing every other year - this is an additional expense. We have a cost of maintaining the equipment - painting of fields, the storage of equipment, etc. There are many great volunteers who donate their time to do some of these projects but still there is a need for more donations and volunteers. We cannot stress enough that no items are provided by Monroe County – everything is paid by the association.
The MYFA Board is trying to make the organization the best it can be for all of our Athletes. We would love to have any help you can give – your time may not be tax deductible but it is Youth Appreciated.
